- What changed with the Boilers Act 2025 and IBR 2026
The Indian Boiler Regulations, 2026 replaced the Indian Boiler Regulations, 1950 on 1 October 2026, under the Boilers Act, 2025. The folder's forms were renumbered — the maker's Form III is now Form IV Part A — certificates can be filed electronically with digital signatures, and manufacturers must keep boiler records for at least five years.
- Documents for boiler registration under IBR 2026
Under regulation 8 of IBR 2026, a boiler's registration application goes to the Chief Inspector with four sets of documents: the Inspecting Authority's certificate (Form I Part B or C), the maker's certificate (Form IV Part A), drawings, and the material certificates (Form V Part A, with the Form V Part B extract).
- How long boiler records must be kept under IBR 2026
Regulation 308 of IBR 2026 sets three retention periods for a boiler's certificates and approved drawings: the Inspecting Authority keeps them at least 3 years after registration, the manufacturer at least 5 years, and the owner for the boiler's entire life, passing them to any new owner.
- Small industrial boilers under IBR 2026
Under IBR 2026 a small industrial boiler is a shell boiler up to 7 kg/cm² (g) holding more than 25 and up to 500 litres, or a coil, once-through or water tube boiler up to 12 kg/cm² (g) and 150 litres. Its certificate of manufacture and test is Form XXII, which was Form XVII under IBR 1950.
- IBR 2026 forms list, and their IBR 1950 names
Every form from Form I to Form XXIII, the regulation it falls under, and the IBR 1950 form it replaced.
